The Viking Union celebrates its 50th birthday party kicked off Monday with a visit from Bellingham Mayor Dan Pike, who visited the Viking Union to proclaim Oct. 30 to Nov. 7 “Viking Union 50th Anniversary Week” in Bellingham. Pike also participated in the opening of the 1959 time capsule during the kickoff ceremony.
The VU, which opened in 1959, houses the Associated Students Board of Directors, a variety of Associated Students programs, the VU Gallery, KUGS and other offices and services of Western.
Dave Carlon, an associate professor in the department of zoology at the University of Hawaii, was on campus Friday, Oct. 30, to present a lecture as part of the Huxley College Speakers' Series. Carlon's lecture was titled "What does the molecular toolkit tell us about the design of marine protected areas on coral reefs? Examples from the Indo-Pacific."
Patricia Wood, an associate professor in the department of geography at York University, was on campus Friday, Oct. 23, to present a lecture as part of the Huxley College Speakers' Series. Wood's lecture was titled "The Emotional Geographies of Refugee Resettlement: Possible Lessons for Settlement Policy from Calgary and Toronto."
