WWU's Morse Leadership Institute to host project poster showcase on March 6

The Morse Leadership Institute will present its quarterly project poster showcase on Monday, March 6, from 3 to 4:20 p.m. in the Miller Hall Collaborative Space. Students enrolled in LDST 101 and 450 will be presenting their work associated with their quarter-long community engagement service-learning projects aimed at developing their leadership skills. This event is free and open to all WWU faculty, staff, and students. Light refreshments will be served.

LDST 101 class is broken up into 4 discussion groups with more senior LDST 450 students mentoring the 101 students in their projects. Former 101 students identified the project topics areas in fall of 2021 based on the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals, WWU’s Okanogan Charter and critical community needs. In addition to serving community need, these projects provide applied leadership learning, helping students understand how to work in a team and how leadership and followership ebb and flow through out the course of a project. Because these projects are ongoing, it also provides the opportunity for students to learn how to pick up a project as well as how to leave a strong legacy for future students to continue the good work.

The current projects are:

  • Nature and Mental Health

  • Trans Youth Advocacy

  • Nooksack Restoration Project

  • Menstrual Health Advocacy

If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about the Leadership Studies Minor, or programs associated with the Morse Leadership Institute, this event will be a great opportunity to learn more! In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to vote for the best overall project.
