WWU Student to Spend Summer in Germany on DAAD Scholarship

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University junior Olivia Mothershead of Kalispell has received a $1,740 University Summer Course Grant from the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) to participate in a three-week language and culture course in Erfurt, Germany.
Mothershead is studying German and English with a Literature Emphasis and is working toward her TESOL certification. She will participate in the University of Erfurt's International Summer Course for German Language, Literature and Area Studies in August.
The University Summer Course Grant from the DAAD provides scholarships to attend a broad range of three- to four-week summer courses at German universities which focus mainly on German language and literary, cultural, political and economic aspects of modern and contemporary Germany.
Mothershead plans to explore Europe for a week before the program starts. After her time in Germany, she plans to graduate next spring. She is considering applying to the AmeriCorps Teach For America program or teaching English abroad.
