Western will host a series of four events this spring to boost equal access and full inclusion in the classroom. Members of the Western community are welcome to mix and match the seminars/discussions they prefer, or come to all four.

The slate for the events is as follows:

Wednesday, April 26 -- Disability Inclusion: Faculty and Staff Coffee and Conversation

Noon-1 p.m. in Miller Hall 001 (the Ershig Assistive Technology Resource Center)

What do students with disabilities experience at Western?  How can we make our courses and campus more inclusive?  Come participate in a case-based discussion with colleagues!

Thursday, April 27 -- Understanding DAC Accommodations: A Guide for Faculty

3-4 p.m. in VU 735 (Multicultural Center Multipurpose Room) and online via Zoom

Get a better understanding of the Disability Access Center’s process in determining student eligibility for accommodations and an in-depth discussion about implementing some of the most common accommodations. This session will also highlight new web resources provided by the DAC to assist faculty in implementing accommodations.

Thursday, May 11 -- Accessible By Design

3-4 p.m. in VU 735 (Multicultural Center Multipurpose Room) and online via Zoom

Come discuss how to implement Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and framework in your course design. Learn how to proactively design courses to be more accessible to all students while limiting the need for individual adaptations and accommodations.
