WeAreWWU Student Scholarship Fundraiser Set for May 30 at Boundary Bay

Western Washington University students are hosting the WeAreWWU scholarship campaign kickoff event from 3-7 p.m., Saturday, May 30th at Boundary Bay Brewery downtown.

The event is open to all ages with a $6 admission which will go directly to scholarship funds as part of the WeAreWWU campaign.

This event is part of the WeAreWWU scholarship drive, a service-learning project for a communication and fundraising class at WWU. The campaign hopes to raise $15,000 for scholarships to provide opportunities for WWU students struggling with tuition costs.

“The accessible philanthropy model this event is built under empowers students to see themselves as active philanthropists, and guides them to be agents in sharing the impact of the ‘Western Experience’ with others,” said Heather Davidson, communication studies instructor. “Students are, after all, the cornerstone of WWU – what better way to celebrate our institution and rally support than stand alongside them?”

In addition to the beer garden amenities, the event will include live music from local band Moongrass, as well as a barbeque, recognition of various WWU-related programs, a Harley-Davidson simulator and a raffle with prizes from local vendors.
