Viking Dollar program to be phased out starting May 15

Viking Dollar account holders will be reimbursed for any unused funds

The Viking Dollar program, a holdover from WWU’s previous campus dining partner, will be phased out by the end of this spring academic quarter. The Viking Dollars program was not included by WWU in our partner agreement with our new campus dining partner Chartwells, and WWU staff were administering the program this year as a transitional arrangement.

Effective May 15, 2024, Viking Dollars will no longer be valid for use at campus dining and food retail locations. Until that date, users can continue to utilize their existing Viking Dollars. Dining Dollars, which students get with their meal plan, will not be affected.

Any remaining balances after May 15 will be automatically reimbursed to active Viking Dollar account holders.

Key steps during this process:

  • Starting April 15: No new Viking Dollars can be added to accounts.

  • Starting May 15: Viking Dollars will no longer be accepted for purchases.

  • Starting May 16: Reimbursements will be automatically processed for all active accounts.

Viking Dollar holders can check their current balances here or at points of sale locations around WWU’s Bellingham campus. For more information on the reimbursement process, refer to the Viking Dollar FAQs

Although Viking Dollars will be phased out by the university this spring, the number of dining offerings provided by our partner Chartwells on our Bellingham campus will continue to grow. This will include more variety in our dining halls and retail locations, regular giveaways and activities, and free food events for the Western community.
