Veterans, dependents may wear special stoles, cords at commencement

The Veterans Services Office at Western Washington University has announced some changes to what veterans and dependents of veterans who are participating in commencement will be wearing.

Student veterans who are graduating will now be able to wear white stoles bearing the WWU logo and the word "Veteran" embroidered below it.

Dependents of veterans also may wear red, white and blue cords to honor their accomplishment. These cords are available to any students participating in graduation who have spouses or parents who have served in the military. The office wants to ensure that family members of those serving in the military are honored for their part in serving the country.

Anyone participating in commencement who is interested in learning more about how to receive a veteran stole or cords may contact Ann Beck at ann.beck@wwu.edu or 360-650-4324.
