Trustees Approve 2021-22 Operating Budget, Tuition rates

The Western Washington University Board of Trustees on Friday, June 11, approved Western’s 2021-22 operating budget, which includes a 2.8 percent tuition increase for resident undergraduate students during the upcoming academic year. The tuition increase, which will be reflected in fall tuition at Western, means a resident undergraduate student will pay $188 more a year.

For the 2021-22 academic year, tuition rates also will increase 2.8 percent for non-resident undergraduate, resident and non-resident graduate, resident and non-resident MBA, resident and non-resident Clinical Doctorate of Audiology program, resident and non- resident Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling, and the resident and non-resident Speech Pathology program students.

Even with the increases, Western tuition rates in nearly all categories still remain lower than most other public universities in the state. The trustees approved Western’s $200,532,219 operating budget for 2021-22; mandatory student fees and the University’s intercollegiate athletics operating budget. The operating budget includes new funding from the state directed toward support services for historically marginalized students, as well as internal funding for critical needs and initiatives.
