State issues new emergency rules for wildfire smoke and heat stress

Wildfire Smoke and Heat Stress are expected to be of concern throughout this summer. The Washington Department of Labor and Industries has responded with new emergency rules for Wildfire Smoke and Heat Stress.

Training on these subjects is required for certain jobs at Western. If you aren’t sure if this applies to you, please contact your supervisor. For those who are not required to train, but would like information, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) now has general informational training available.

Please note - In the case of wildfire smoke, EHS has a very limited number of air filters available for emergency use. If your operations may require use of filters, you should consider departmental purchase. Recommendations for what to look for in a filter can be found on our Air Quality page.
