Retirement Celebration for Marcia Merth to be held Tuesday, Jan.30

The Registrar’s Office is hosting a retirement celebration in honor of Marcia Merth from 1-3 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 30 in the Miller Hall Collaboration Space. Everyone who has known and worked with Marcia over the years is invited to attend.

Merth began her career at Western in 1975 as an office assistant in the Department of English. She also worked in the Graduate School as a program coordinator for nine years. Merth has worked in the Registrar’s Office for 32 years, where she manages the Records and Grading section. Marcia has been an integral part of the Registrar's Office, using her extensive knowledge, experience and sound judgment to keep up with ever-changing technology. She has been responsible for the confidential safekeeping and processing of over four and a half million grade records and over a quarter of a million transcript records and has survived 121 grade weeks!

Marcia was essential in the implementation of the first online transcript processed at Western winter quarter 1992. She also served on the Banner Student Implementation Team 1998-1999, Degree Audit/Transfer Articulation Implementation Team 2005-2006, and served as Team Leader for the implementations of NOLIJ Scanning Records, Official Transcripts, Transfer Transcripts and Fairhaven Evaluations from 2001-2014.

During her many years of service to Western, Merth received the Human Resources Appreciation Award in 1995 and the President’s Exceptional Effort Award in 2006 and 2015. While working full time, Marcia earned her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Western, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2003.

“Marcia has maintained an exceptional commitment to Western for more than 40 years and many of us will miss her incredible sense of humor and ability to recall institutional history,” said Registrar David Brunnemer.  “Marcia is a true friend and leader to many of us here, and now is the time for us to celebrate her well-deserved retirement.”
