Student work on display during Design Days

Western Washington University's Department of Design is holding its annual Design Days events through Thursday, May 14, in various locations on campus, including Communications Facility, Miller Hall, Red Square and Vendor’s Row.

All activities are free and open to the public.

The "Just Our Type" poster showcase, shown here, is a collection of student posters focused on spreading ideas about design through a shared love for typography. Students also will have their projects on display in the halls of the Fine Arts Building, celebrating the diversity of thinking with which students approach design.

The keynote speaker, Toby Grubb, will speak at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, in Miller Hall 138. Grubb is a veteran of the Burton Corporation design team, and is now the creative lead of the team at Instrument, a design company based out of Portland that services Nike brands.

Past Design Days have included speakers such as Michael Vanderbyl and former AIGA presidents Debbie Millman and Doug Powell, award-winning design exhibits like Volume, Inc. and documentary films like “Typeface.”

A complete schedule of events and locations is available online. After 4:30 p.m., free parking is available in the gravel “C” lots on South Campus adjacent to Academic West.
