Nominations for 2024 Presidential Scholars are now open!

The Presidential Scholar Awards honor graduating students for their exceptional scholarship and service to the university and community. There will be one Presidential Scholar granted per college (CBE, CFPA, CHSS – Behavior Sciences, CHSS – Humanities, CSE, College of the Environment, Woodring), and they will each be recognized at their corresponding June commencement ceremony. Nominations for students in interdisciplinary programs will be accepted and reviewed individually.

Nomination Process: 

  • Nominees must be graduating seniors during the 2023/2024 academic year (Fall 2023 through Summer 2024) who qualify in all three categories: 
    • Scholarship: Student’s scholarly accomplishments; 
    • Diversity: Student’s success in furthering multicultural programs or activities; 
    • Service: Student has achieved levels of service to the community that have benefited their peers, their departments, and the greater community.  
  • All nominations must be submitted via the on-line nomination form by 5 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2024.  We recommend that you type your responses into a Word document and then cut and paste the text into each question on the nomination form instead of editing within the form (saving/re-accessing a form in Qualtrics can be temperamental). 
  • In order to complete the on-line nomination form, nominators will need the following information about the nominee ahead of time: 
    • Student’s first and last names 
    • Student’s W# 
    • Student’s email address 
    • Student’s major (we will verify this with the Registrar’s Office) 

(If you do not know the above information about the student, please consult your department’s administrative assistant before starting the survey.) 

  • The President’s Office will provide the compiled list of nominations to each dean/college. Each dean will then nominate a single candidate for their college (including both divisions of CHSS) based upon nominations from the faculty for final review by the President.  

  • Presidential Scholars Timeline: 

    • Nominations Open – February 14, 2024
    • Nomination Submission Deadline – April 4, 2024
    • Compiled Nominations Provided to Colleges – April 10, 2024 
    • Dean’s Recommendation Due to President’s Office – April 24, 2024 
    • President’s Office notifies selected Presidential Scholars – May 3, 2024
