WWU leads conference with 42 Vikings winning academic achievement awards

Ten WWU student-athletes honored for third year

Forty-two Western Washington University student-athletes were named recipients of 2012-13 Division II Athletics Directors Association Academic Achievement Awards presented by WeatherPORT announced Wednesday, Aug. 21.

It is the second highest figure for the Vikings since the program was initiated in 2008. They had 20 that year, 22 in 2009, 30 in 2010, 39 in 2011 and 46 in 2012.

WWU’s total led the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

The DII ADA Academic Achievement Awards is a program that recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the Division II level.

To receive the honor, a student-athlete must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, have completed a minimum of two years (six quarters or four semesters) of college level work, and been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last academic year.

Leading the Vikings for the second straight year was men’s cross country and track and field junior Trevor Robinson (Seattle/Nathan Hale), a Planning and Environmental Policy major who is maintaining a 3.98 GPA.

Ten WWU student-athletes were honored for the third time.
