Motherlode to play Dec. 7 at WWU in support of scholarships

Motherlode, a band featuring Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies Professor Marie Eaton, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, in a concert to benefit a scholarship named for Eaton's father.

Motherlode comprises four female artists who have been performing together for 30 years. They write most of their own material, including love songs, political satire, traditional ballads and songs about positive solutions to contemporary issues.

Eaton’s father, Conant (Connie) Dodge, was the first in his family to complete a four-year college degree. The scholarships in his name help students at Western Washington University’s Fairhaven College who are the first generation in their families to go to college. During his lifetime, Dodge helped fund college degrees, not only for family members, but also for others who did not have the resources to pursue their dreams of education.

“His lifelong commitment to education was like a pebble dropped into a pool, spreading out to touch many lives,” Eaton said. “The family hopes that this scholarship for first-generation-to-college students might begin a legacy like his in another family.”

Dodge instilled a deep belief in the power of education in his own children and grandchildren, Eaton said.

The concert will be at the Fairhaven College Auditorium. Advance tickets cost $18, $12 for seniors and students. Tickets at the door cost $20. Advance tickets are available at Village Books in Fairhaven and the Community Food Co-op at 1220 N. Forest St. or from Eaton.
