Alumna Nora Selander returns to campus as its new director of Government Relations

WWU alumna Nora Selander has been hired as the new director of Government Relations at Western Washington University.

Selander replaces Becca Kenna-Schenk, who became the Chief of Staff to WWU President Sabah Randhawa last fall.

“This university is an incredibly special place, and I’m honored to return to WWU in this role,” Selander said.

Prior to coming to Western, Selander was most recently the director of Government Relations at The Evergreen State College in Olympia. Before that, she served as the Legislative Affairs and Rules Manager for the state’s Behavioral Health Administration.

WWU President Sabah Randhawa said that Selander’s experience with guiding the needs of higher education through the halls of Olympia will be a huge benefit to the Western community.

“In an ever more competitive legislative environment, having an experienced and savvy voice in Olympia is increasingly critical,” said Randhawa. “And with her strong network of relationships with legislators, their staffs and with legislative staff personnel, Nora gives us that. Working alongside her predecessor in Becca, Western will have a very solid framework of experience with which to approach each legislative session.”

Selander has a master’s degree in Public Administration from The Evergreen State College and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and History from Western (’17).
