Multicultural Center Construction Update

Activities at the MCC project site this week:

  • Water Shutdown Thursday, Sept. 13, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Contractors will shut off the water to the east half of the Viking Union from 7 a.m. to about 3 p.m. to tie in the plumbing for the new facility.  This shutdown will only impact the restrooms, drinking fountains and sinks on seventh floor at KUGS, the temporary Bookstore in the former MPR, VU 5 East and VU 4 East offices including most AS program and staff offices.  The west portion of the building (restrooms and the food service areas) will function as usual.

  • Sixth Floor Lobby Demolition: Crews demolished the old entrance to the Viking Union and installed a temporary construction wall which will help minimize construction impacts to the areas west of the wall.

  • Safety: Please continue to be cautious around the project site and use crosswalks and sidewalks as directed by the construction signs.

  • Roofing: The roof vapor barrier which also function as a temporary roof is complete. Permanent roofing material is stockpiled on the roof. Installation will proceed as weather permits.
