It's Cybersecurity Month! Here are some resources and activities to help keep you (and your identity) safe online

Western Washington University’s Information Security Office would like to invite you to participate in some informational and fun cybersecurity webinars and games sponsored by Washington State’s Office of Cybersecurity. To participate, go to the state’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month webpage, and register for the events. Anyone can attend, but if you are a University employee, you are also eligible for prizes! Some of the must-do activities are:

Tuesday, Oct. 10, from 9-10 a.m.: National Cybersecurity Alliance Gameshow

The National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA) is offering a fun new gamified Cybersecurity Awareness Month presentation that will last 40-50 minutes with time for audience Q&A. Your cyber skills will be tested by solving challenges and strategic quandaries. Come to improve your cybersecurity knowledge and gain practical techniques to safeguard your digital life!

Tuesday, Oct. 10, from noon to 1 p.m.: Phishing, smishing, and vishing

What they are and how can you protect yourself Our state coordinator for the federal Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency (CISA), Ian Moore, will talk about phishing, smishing, and vishing and the various forms of deception that can be used against you. He'll also demonstrate and explain the differences with the parts of an email so you know what to look for to determine if it is real and will show how to respond.
