Local Latina students face obstacles but keep on track for college

Monica Vera was carried into the United States — she was a baby. Eighteen years later, on Jan. 30 this year, the Mark Morris High School senior became a citizen.

“I had to study for a long time to know all of the questions and answers for the citizenship test,” Monica said this week. “It cost a lot of money and effort for it but, thanks to my parents’ and teachers’ help, I passed the test.”
