Ballet of Fairhaven & Chinese Theme in Production

The Northwest Ballet of Bellingham is producing a ballet on the theme of the Chinese in historic Fairhaven back in the 1880s. The ballet will not be historically accurate but will explore the racial relationship that was here in the late 1800s and early 1900s. While this part of our Fairhaven history is one that many prefer to sweep under the rug, it is part of our heritage and many of us feel it should be researched and documented. This ballet will explore the emotions and conflicts in the tradition of Romeo and Juliet and other history based plays and ballets. The core issues will be carefully handled. And it has a happy ending. Plus old Dirty Dan Harris and his opposite, Chinese “uncle” Goon Dip, come off as wise fellows who help defuse tensions.
