Children ages 4 to 12 to perform violin, dance and ballet pieces June 18 at WWU

Young students, ages 4 to 12, of the Western Arts Preparatory Academy will demonstrate their new skills learned in the areas of violin, creative dance, and ballet at 7 p.m. June 18 in the Western Washington University Performing Arts Center.

The first section of the performance will be a violin demonstration by Suzuki violin students from the music program. The violin students will perform as a group, demonstrating basic violin techniques and ensemble skills while playing variations of such favorite songs such as "Pop Goes the Weasel," "See Saw," "Monkey Song" and "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star."

A dance section will follow. The dance students will showcase an original number, "Imagination Animation," that melds creative dance and story ballet. This one-act performance follows a young girl who discovers magical toys powered by the imagination after her video game runs out of batteries.

Admission is $10, and tickets can be obtained at the WWU Box Office in the lobby of the Performing Arts Center or via email at boxoffice@wwu.edu. For details, visit http://www.tickets.wwu.edu/ or call (360) 650-6146.
