CBE hosting 'Business Bound: From High School to WWU' Oct. 17

Four departments in Western's College of Business and Economics are working together to bring about 100 students from several local high schools to campus for an event titled “Business Bound: From High School to WWU” on Tuesday, Oct. 17.

During the event, which runs from 9 a.m. to noon, CBE facilitators will have a number of activities and discussions designed with three goals in mind:

1) To increase interest in going to college generally,

2) To encourage them to consider Western Washington University, and

3) To give them information about the benefits of studying a business discipline at Western.

"We see this as a means of increasing diversity and fostering a more inclusive atmosphere here at Western, which is why we have primarily partnered with high schools that serve students from underrepresented backgrounds and marginalized communities," said WWU Professor of Finance and Marketing Ed Love.

The agenda, subject to change, is as follows:

  • 9:00 – Students arrive on campus
  • 9:00-9:30 – Welcome, breakfast, intro
  • 9:30-11:00 – Icebreaker Game & Breakout sessions where students will have the opportunity to meet with various departments and student groups within the College of Business to learn about disciplines. HS students will be teamed up with faculty and current WWU/CBE students to learn about life in the College of Business and beyond. We will also have a student resource table where students can learn about financial aid, scholarships, admissions, and student clubs.
  • 11:00-11:40 – Campus Scavenger Hunt – Students will break off into groups with our Student Ambassadors and faculty. Fastest team wins a prize! (rain or shine!)
  • 11:40-12:30 – Lunch in VU Dining Hall
  • 12:30-1:30 – Presentation led by our Multi-Cultural Center and cultural/ethnic student groups
  • 1:30 – Students head back to buses
