Carver construction: Updates for the weeks of Dec. 6, 13

Measures are being taken to minimize noise during finals week Dec. 6 to 12. Planned activities on the Carver Academic Facility renovation project include the following:

  • Continue demolition of the 1970s building.
  • Complete demolition of south roof overhang at Gym C.
  • Continue storm sewer site work.
  • Complete excavation for utilidor.
  • Begin forming pile caps & installing, reinforcing & placing concrete for utilidor (utility tunnel for electrical systems).
  • Continue drilling “micro” piles in east section:
    • Equipment noise & diesel fumes.
    • Noise will be similar or less in intensity as previous demolition noise.
  • First phase of piling scheduled to be complete late December/early January.

Construction  activities for the week of Dec. 13:

  • Continue demolition of 70’s building.
  • Continue forming pile caps & installing, reinforcing & placing concrete for utilidor (utility tunnel for electrical systems).
  • Continue “micro” pile drilling in east section. “Micro” pile drilling is not as loud as “pin” pile driving.
  • Remove windows at Gym D; to protect pedestrians, close off west pedestrian path from Dec. 14 to 18. See map.
