AIDS activist Timothy Costello to deliver speech on falling in love with activism at 7 p.m. tonight at WWU

Timothy Costello, director of Western Washington University's Center for Service-Learning, will deliver the keynote address for the 2010 CASCAID Conference at 7 p.m. today, May 7, in the Viking Union Multipurpose Room on the WWU campus.

A long-time AIDS activist and founder of the internationally recognized and award-winning Slum Doctor Programme, Costello has been pivotal in establishing the Hope Center for Infectious Diseases, the largest free HIV/AIDS clinic in Kenya, providing care for more than 9,000 patients annually. Drawing from his unique personal experiences, Costello will address issues of privilege, activism and our shared humanity in a keynote address titled "Falling in Love with ... Activism."

The CASCAID Conference continues on Saturday, May 8, with sessions featuring a variety of workshops, academic paper panels, and discussion forums centered on the conference theme of global health. Those sessions take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Communications Facility on the WWU campus.
