After more than 30 years at WWU, Sherrie Montgomery retires

Sherrie's colleague put together this collage as a send-off for her. Sherrie's husband Dave, in many of the pictures above, is a retired Western carpenter.

After nearly 32 years at Western, Project Manager Architect Sherrie Montgomery retired December 15. Sherrie began her illustrious career at Western in 1992 and has managed a remarkable array of public works projects from minor works roofing, safety upgrades, and interior renovations to major projects like the House of Healing, Alma Clark Glass Hall, the Carver Academic Renovation, the Shannon Point Marine Education Center, and the Wilson Library Special Collections, among many others.

Sherrie’s colleagues describe her as one of the best PMs Western ever had, a patient teacher, a model of strength, an amazing mentor, a stellar example of professional integrity, and a treasure to work with. Her strong personality and her “get it done right and get it done right now” attitude made her an outstanding role model who shared her wealth of knowledge freely and cheerfully. Her contributions as a brilliant project manager, welcoming colleague, keeper of wisdom, and friendly, steadying presence are truly incalculable.

In addition, Sherrie was the heart of the FM Singers and the leader of the FM Trio (Fred Esher was the beat and Doug MacLean was the lyric larcenist). Sherrie loved to sing harmony and complement Fred’s guitar with her ukulele. She is also a talented artist and avid gardener. Sherrie is greatly missed, but we wish her good times, good health, and good adventures in retirement.
