Zaferatos has article series on socially equitable sustainable community development published

Nicholas C. Zaferatos, an associate professor of Urban Planning and Sustainable Development in Huxley College of the Environment at Western Washington University, recently published a series of articles on socially equitable sustainable community development (“Reviving the Mediterranean Olive Community”, in Journal of Education for Sustainable Development 5:2; and “Sustaining the Ancient Olive Community: Strategies for Mediterranean Sustainable Development”, in Journal of Sustainable Development, 4:1). Funded by the European Union and the Anna Lindh Foundation, the research produced theoretical frameworks for establishing fair trade olive oil cooperatives throughout the Mediterranean region in cooperation with research colleagues in Jordan, Palestine, Tunisia, Greece, Italy, the Hellenic American University and the United Nations University. His development model will be tested in case study research in the rural agricultural community of Ithaca, Greece, during his spring 2012 sabbatical.
