WWU's SEA Discovery Center in Poulsbo expands summer hours
Western Washington University’s SEA Discovery Center in Poulsbo will offer extended summer hours starting Tuesday, May 30.
The center, which is a free public aquarium, features marine life and habitats from local waters.
Summer hours are set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday through Sunday. The center will be closed on Monday.
SEA is home to several youth program offerings including GEMS Night Out, Grandparents U, Kids Night Out @ Western, Odyssey of Science & Arts, Super Saturday, field trips and birthday parties.
The facility was established in the 1980s by the Seattle-based Marine Science Society. On May 24, 2016, the center was officially transferred to Western as part of the university’s expanding programs in Poulsbo. Western offers courses and degree programs through the WWU Center at Olympic College as a way to serve the community and businesses on the Kitsap and Olympic Peninsulas.
SEA is a continuation of Western’s commitment to provide for the educational needs of learners of all ages. Western also partners with the City of Poulsbo to continue the mission of supporting marine education at the community’s waterfront.
