WWU's Ricardo López-Pedreros wins award for "Makers of Democracy: A Transnational History of the Middle Classes in Colombia"

WWU Professor of History Ricardo López-Pedreros has won Honorable Mention for his paper," Makers of Democracy: A Transnational History of the Middle Classes in Colombia," as submitted to the Alejandro Ángel Escobar Foundation awards in the category of Social and Human Sciences.

Alejandro Ángel Escobar was a Colombian businessman born in Medellín in 1903. In his will, after having studied the operation of the Nobel Foundation and the Rockefeller Foundation, he entrusted his wife, María Restrepo de Ángel, with the creation of a foundation that would bear his name and that would annually award two prizes for scientific merit and two more for solidarity and social work in Colombia. In 1955 the Alejandro Ángel Escobar Foundation was created.
