WWU Youth Programs to Host GEMS Night Out for Girls Interested in STEM Fields

Western Washington University Youth Programs invites girls in grades 3-8 to participate in GEMS (Girls in Engineering, Math and Science) Night Out this fall.

The event will be held Friday, Nov. 18 from 7-9:45 p.m. at Western’s Science Resource Center. Students are welcome to enjoy an hour of swimming at Western’s Wade King Student Recreation Center.

A winter event will be held Friday, Feb. 10 from 7-9:45 p.m., also at Western’s campus.

Designed to provide a safe and empowering way to explore STEM fields, GEMS Night Out provides an opportunity for hands-on learning in an inspiring environment.

Students will explore the topic of geology through the theme “Can You Dig It?” at the fall event. The winter event’s theme is “A Dark and Starry Night,” which will allow students to explore astronomy.

Cost to participate in GEMS Night Out is $30 per student. Students are asked to bring a jacket, water bottle, snack, paper, pencils, a swimsuit and towel, and a curious mind.
