WWU to Host Tristan Woodsmith for 'Fungi: Environmental Stewards in a Changing Climate' Nov. 8
Cultivation specialist Tristan Woodsmith will present “Fungi: Environmental Stewards in a Changing Climate” at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8 in Academic West 204 on Western Washington University’s campus as part of the Huxley Speaker Series.
All Huxley Speaker Series events are free and open to the public.
Tristan Woodsmith will discuss the diverse and important roles played by fungi in the environment, their significance to humans, and how fungi can be utilized to decompose waste, grow gourmet food and promote environmental restoration. Woodsmith will cover the mushroom life cycle, fungal ecology, bioremediation (healing toxic environments), mushrooms and health, and growing mycelia and mushrooms at home.
Tristan Woodsmith is an equipment and cultivation specialist and educator for Fungi Perfecti, a family-owned company which promotes the cultivation of mushrooms for human consumption and medicinal use. Woodsmith has provided technical support for mushroom growing equipment and general cultivation advice since 2012. Tristan lives in Olympia, and when he isn’t picking mushrooms, spends his free time gardening, brewing beer and adventuring outdoors.
