WWU’s Ray Wolpow Institute to Stream Critically Acclaimed Film ‘Transit’ May 7-14

Western Washington University’s Ray Wolpow Institute for the Study of the Holocaust, Genocide and Crimes Against Humanity will host free and open streaming of Christian Petzold’s 2018 film “Transit” from May 7-14.

“Transit” is a modern-day retelling of Anna Seghers' 1944 novel of the same name about a German Jew who flees to Marseille, France and assumes the identity of a recently deceased writer. In Marseille he delves into the delicate and complex culture of the refugee community as he and others like him seek to find a way out of the country and the persecution of the authorities.

Streaming information will be posted on the RWI website soon, at https://rwi.wwu.edu/. Check back for more details as the streaming dates get closer.

SAVE THE DATE: The institute and Western’s Department of Modern & Classical Languages will host an online presentation at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 18 with New York University Professor of Modern Jewish History Marion Kaplan, a three-time winner of the National Jewish Book Award. Kaplan will discuss her newest book, “Hitler’s Refugees: Hope and Anxiety in Portugal.” Connection information for this presentation will also be posted on the RWI website very soon.
