WWU’s English to Speakers of Other Languages Endorsement Program for Practicing Teachers to Begin Summer Quarter

Practicing teachers seeking English Language Learner (ELL) training can begin their English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) endorsement this summer through Western Washington University’s Woodring College of Education.

Applications are now available and will be accepted until May 10.

The ESOL endorsement program for practicing teachers is designed for K-12 educators seeking an endorsement to strengthen skills in supporting the education of ELL students in their classrooms. The part-time, five-quarter program offers a combination of weekend and online classes, as well as an opportunity to complete a practicum component in the teachers’ own classrooms within their schools or districts. Face-to-face classes will rotate between Bellingham and Everett, based on students’ needs.

Upon completion of the ESOL program, teachers will earn a Washington State Endorsement in English to Speakers of Other Languages and may choose to apply all 27 of the program’s credits toward Western’s Master of Education program.

Additional credits may also be taken to complete a bilingual endorsement or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certificate.

Eligible teachers may apply for a $3,000 Educator Retooling Conditional Scholarship through the state of Washington to be used toward the ESOL program’s tuition costs. For information on this scholarship opportunity, please visit pathway.pesb.wa.gov/current-educators/educator-retooling.
