WWU once again ranks among the top five Peace Corps volunteer-producing schools in the nation
WWU recently ranked fifth among the top Peace Corps volunteer-producing colleges and universities in the nation for medium-sized schools of between 5,000-15,000 students, according to the newest rankings released by the Peace Corps.
Peace Corps volunteers work in over 60 countries promoting peace with intercultural understanding, through people-to-people exchange. Volunteers collaborate with community members on projects that advance local priorities. Volunteers build relationships, appreciate local cultural values, and make a lasting impact in the areas of education, health, environment, agriculture, community economic development, and youth development.
Thirteen WWU alumni are currently serving as Peace Corps volunteers.
"Through the service ethos that runs deep with students, Peace Corps service continues to thrive at Western,” WWU's Peace Corps Recruiter, Jerry Smith said. “The faculty, staff and students allow me to showcase the many global opportunities Peace Corps service provides both during their service and after they get back to the USA."
Students can learn more about how to become a Peace Corps volunteer by attending the Peace Corps Application Workshop on Wednesday, June 4 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in Miller Hall 131. For more information about serving in the Peace Corps click here!
