WWU Music to Feature French Horn Player David Griffin at Free Recital Oct. 20

BELLINGHAM – Western Washington University’s Department of Music will host French horn player David Griffin for a master class and evening recital on Wednesday, Oct. 20.

The master class will be from 4-5 p.m. in room 24 of the Performing Arts Center.  The evening recital will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the PAC Concert Hall.  Both events are free and open to the public.

The evening program, which will also feature WWU Professor of Music Jeffrey Gilliam on piano, will include pieces by Kerry Turner, Anthony Plog, Richard Strauss, and Verne Reynolds.

David Griffin is the fourth horn of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and a member of the wind quartet “Prairie Winds.”  After graduating from Northwestern University in 1987, Griffin began his career with the Rochester Philharmonic and followed with positions in the orchestras of Montreal and Houston before joining the Chicago Symphony in 1995.  He has performed throughout the United States with numerous orchestras, Prairie Winds, and as a soloist, and has been involved in collaborative works combining film and live chamber music.
