WWU moving to entirely electronic payroll distribution; check to see if this may impact you

HR/Payroll and Treasury Services are excited to announce that Western is moving to an entirely electronic payroll distribution.

To bring Western into compliance with the state mandate to pay everyone electronically, this spring Western will launch Payroll Cards as a replacement to paper paychecks.

If you are currently receiving pay via a paper check and do not want to receive your pay via Payroll Card, you must enroll in direct deposit now. You can visit https://hr.wwu.edu/getting-paid and follow the direct deposit enrollment instructions.

There are many benefits to a Payroll Card, for both employees and for the University.

Benefits for employees

  • Enhanced Security: No more worries about lost or stolen checks. Your earnings will be securely stored on a Payroll Card.
  • Faster Access to Funds: No more waiting for checks to arrive in the mail. Your pay will be directly deposited onto your card on payday, allowing for immediate access to your funds.
  • Convenience: Enjoy the ease of making everyday purchases with your card. You can also access your funds at ATMs and withdraw cash.

Benefits for the University

  • Increased Efficiency: This move streamlines payroll processes, saving time and resources for both HR and employees.
  • Enhanced Security: Reduced risk of check fraud or loss, benefits both the university and its employees.
  • Environmental Sustainability: Eliminating paper checks contributes to our sustainability goals.

We're excited to facilitate this change as we transition to a more secure, efficient, and sustainable payroll system. Please don't hesitate to reach out to Human Resources at HR.Payroll@wwu.edu if you have any questions.
