WWU Director of Athletics Steve Card to Retire After 33 Years at the University

After more than 33 years of service, WWU Director of Athletics Steve Card is retiring at the end of March. An open house celebration for students, staff and faculty is set for Thursday, March 30, from 2-4 p.m., in the Carver Hall of Fame Room.

Steve was hired in 1990 as the associate director of Athletics for Business and Financial Affairs and served as Head Coach for men’s golf for 20 years. He has represented Western on numerous NCAA and GNAC committees, conferences and advisory boards and Western was honored with being selected to host a Division II Men’s Golf National Championship in 2009.

Since taking the helm of Athletics in 2014, WWU athletes have won 48 GNAC titles, three national titles, and have been awarded the NCAA Presidents' Award in four of the last five years for academic excellence with an Academic Success Rate over 90%.  This year, Western is home of the 2022, Division II, National Champions in Women’s Soccer.
