WWU College of Business and Economics to Host Teaching Scholarship Day Oct. 29

BELLINGHAM – Western Washington University’s College of Business and Economics (CBE) and its Center for Excellence in Management Education will celebrate excellence in business education and its partnerships with industry at its annual Teaching Scholarship Day on Friday, Oct. 29.

The activities will begin with a Business Education Showcase presentation from 11-11:50 a.m. in Parks Hall 108 titled “Preparing for Career Success in Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management.”  The presentation will be delivered by students in the College’s highly regarded Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management program.  No registration is required for the Showcase presentation.

From noon until 1:15 p.m. in the Wade King Recreation Center’s MAC Gymnasium, CBE will hold a luncheon to recognize its 2010 Distinguished Faculty Fellow Award recipients.  WWU Professor of Economics Dan Hagen will be recognized with the Distinguished Research Fellow Award and Professor of Marketing Wendy Wilhelm will be recognized with the Distinguished Teaching Fellow Award.  Registration for the luncheon is required.  For registration information go to http://cbe.wwu.edu/ceme/tsd.asp .

Immediately following the lunch, from 1:15-2:30 p.m. in in the Wade King Recreation Center’s MAC Gymnasium, the College’s Center for Excellence in Management Education (CEME) will host the executive capstone panel, “The Mission Statement: A Critical Element in Strategic Planning or Merely a Slogan?”  Panelists will be Wayne Langei, CEO of the Whatcom Educational Credit Union; Steve Staves, retired president of Duracell; and Frank “Sandy McIntire,” retired managing director of Johnson & Johnson. The panel will be moderated by Phil Hummel, a member of the CEME industry advisory board.  The panel is open to the public and no registration is required.
