WWU Chief Katy Potts salutes her officers on National Police Week
National Police Week is an annual event that encompasses the week of May 15, honoring the courageous individuals serving as law enforcement officers in the United States. May 15 is designated as Police Officers Memorial Day, a day to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice or suffered life-changing injuries while protecting and serving their communities.
As we begin National Police Week, I reflect upon my 25 years of service in this noble profession and the remarkable individuals I have had the privilege to work alongside. Those who choose a career in law enforcement take a solemn oath to serve, protect, and defend their communities and our constitution, shouldering a tremendous responsibility that often includes immense sacrifice.
In the spirit of recognition and gratitude, I would like to shine a light on the exceptional officers of the University Police Department during this significant week.
Deputy Chief Miguel Anguiano, your extensive experience in both law enforcement and military service has proven invaluable in providing exemplary leadership to our department. Our department has had considerable growth since your arrival, and I am sincerely grateful for your dedicated service.
Sergeant Joe Bailey, your commitment to the Western community over the past 25 years is truly remarkable. Your knowledge of campus operations and understanding of essential processes has played a crucial role in driving our department forward. Your genuine care for the campus community is evident in all that you do, and we are all honored to serve alongside you.
Sergeant Eric Ellis, your service to Western, as well as your continued military service to our country, is a testament to your dedication and commitment to public safety. Your role in training our officers in firearms and tactics ensures our team's readiness for any challenge they may face, directly contributing to the safety and well-being of both your fellow officers and the Western community.
Sergeant Terrence Cunningham, the depth of experience and knowledge you have brought to UPD has elevated our department and spurred continual growth.
