WWU announces winter courses for writers and editors

Western Washington University is offering two non-credit courses for writers and editors this winter, "The Novel: Experience and Write Fiction," and "Knock Out Editing: From Polish to Publish."

The courses are open to the public and formal admission to WWU is not required.

The course, "The Novel: Experience and Write Fiction,” will build upon existing narratives or generate new material for novels and short stories. Participants will experience the benefits of sharing work with other interested and compassionate readers. This course will help sharpen editorial articulation and unpack the essentials of the dramatic arc to create dynamic characters and a unique narrative voice. Tuesday evening classes begin Jan. 11 and run through March 1. The cost of the eight-week course is $475.

During the course, "Knock Out Editing: From Polish to Publish," participants will learn the developmental editing techniques that successful writers and editors use to turn a good start into a great finish with minimal artistic pain. The course will provide tips for defining the audience, shaping the work, and honing creative prowess to knock out a meaningful final draft.

Wednesday evening classes begin Jan. 5 and run through Feb. 23. The cost of the eight-week course is $475.

Prompt registration is encouraged to reserve space in either class. For more information, visit http://www.extendeded.wwu.edu website or contact eesp@wwu.edu or (360) 650-3308.
