WWU and Whatcom Museum to present 'Sounds of the 1930s with Leslie Amper' on Oct. 23

The Western Washington University Department of Music and Whatcom Museum will present “Sounds of the 1930s with Leslie Amper” at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23 in the PAC Concert Hall.

“Sounds of the 1930s” adds to our understanding of the importance of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s initiatives to support artists, including more than 200 composers through the Federal Music Program. The evening will include a presentation and recital of these composers’ works by pianist Leslie Amper.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Amper, a recipient of the NEA Solo Recitalist Fellowship Grant, has delighted audiences with her piano recitals in cities across the nation. She has performed “Sounds of the 1930s” at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Fort Wayne Museum of Art in conjunction with the exhibition “1934: A New Deal for Artists,” which is currently on display at the Whatcom Museum through Jan. 9, 2011.

“Sounds of the 1930s with Leslie Amper” is sponsored by the SODEXHO fund at Western Washington University.
