Wet Weather: Stay safe and informed with these resources
It's been an exceptionally wet week across our region, and many of you may be receiving alerts for coastal flooding and flood warnings. We want to assure you that Western continues to actively monitor the situation and is staying in close communication with local and regional weather authorities to support safety and preparedness.
Today marks the last wave of precipitation from this atmospheric river event. After several days of heavy rain, soils are saturated, leading to increased runoff and elevated river levels. This is a significant, potentially historic weather event, and impacts may vary across communities.
Current Conditions:
- Many rivers in the region are at or approaching flood stage.
- In Whatcom County, the Nooksack River is expected to reach moderate flood stage late tonight, peaking Thursday afternoon.
- The Skagit River is forecast to reach major flood stage late tonight, with a potentially historic peak Thursday night into Friday morning. Some areas in Skagit County have already received notices to prepare for evacuation.
- Catastrophic flooding impacts are possible along the Skagit and Snohomish Rivers.
