Western Washington University’s Viking Launch offers incoming freshman the chance to get an early start

BELLINGHAM – Western Washington University invites incoming freshman to get a head start on college and participate in Viking Launch, Western’s fall quarter early-start program featuring immersive, lab and field-based courses and extended opportunities to become familiar with the academic and social climate of Western’s Bellingham campus.

Viking Launch takes place from September 17-22 and provides students with the option to earn up to two credits prior to start of fall quarter. The program connects incoming first-year students with faculty, university resources, and a base group of other first-year students to help them build a strong foundation for their college career.

Participants will stay in the Fairhaven Residence Hall or the Kappa Residence Hall, where they will remain for the rest of the year. Students will complete an undergraduate seminar course, recreation activities and college resources workshops. Western offers a variety of seminar courses including environmental studies, creative writing, marine biology and more.

The cost for Viking Launch is $825 for the two-credit program, $725 for the one-credit program or $475 for the non-credit option. These costs include tuition and fees, campus housing and dining for the week, recreation activities, and all other program activities.

Registration for Viking Launch will close August 18, 2017, however, space is limited, so it is recommended that participants register before June 1 for course availability and residence hall priority. Registration can be completed by visiting the Viking Launch website at wwu.edu/vikinglaunch.
