Western Washington University announces summer youth program offerings in Poulsbo

POULSBO – Western Washington University will offer a variety of programs for youth in Poulsbo this summer at the SEA Discovery Center.

For 34 years, Western’s youth programs have encouraged kids to consider opportunities in higher education. Participants gain exposure to a college atmosphere while learning from some of Western’s top-quality educators.

Programs in Poulsbo this summer include Odyssey of Science & Arts and Grandparents U:

  • Odyssey of Science and Arts, a hands-on exploration of the sciences and arts, is available for students entering grades six through eight. Two sessions will be offered, “Girls Explore Marine Mysteries,” July 17-21 and “Salish Sea Investigations,” July 24-28. Both programs will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the SEA Discovery Center.
  • The intergenerational Grandparents U has students spend a day or two with their grandparent learning about marine biology together. Two sessions are available for students entering grades three through five. The first session will be two days: 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Aug. 1 and 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 2. The second session will be one day: 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Aug. 3.

Scholarships are available. Members of the public are also welcome to sponsor a student by making a tax-deductible donation to the Western Foundation, which facilitates the WWU Youth Programs Scholarship fund.
