Western Lecture Series to Present ‘Hormone-Disrupting Chemicals in Personal Care Products: Health Effects and How to Reduce our Exposures’ Oct. 16 in Kingston

Western Washington University on the Peninsulas will host Fran Solomon at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at Village Green Community Center in Kingston for “Hormone-Disrupting Chemicals in Personal Care Products: Health Effects and How to Reduce our Exposures.”

The lecture, part of the Western Lecture Series, is free and open to the public and will explore how many present-day consumer and personal care products contain chemicals that disrupt hormones. A large body of scientific evidence indicates that these endocrine disruptor chemicals (EDCs) cause or contribute to many diseases and health issues in humans and other species. Solomon discusses how EDCs in personal care products cause harm, what those health effects are, why children are especially vulnerable and actions everyone can take to reduce exposure.

With a bachelor’s degree in biology, master’s degree in environmental health and a doctorate in fisheries, Solomon has a wealth of knowledge and has 25 years of environmental agency experience. She teaches environmental science at Western Washington University on the Peninsulas and believes that everyone should be informed about EDCs.

Western Lecture Series events feature prominent speakers who deliver talks on an array of academic subjects designed to expand knowledge, provoke thought and inspire creativity. Offered throughout the year, the lectures are free and are open to the public without need to register.
