WECU’s new WWU debit card generates support for Western Washington University

A portion of the revenue will benefit WWU

A portion of the revenue from the WECU debit card will benefit WWU students and programs.

A new collaboration launching this week between Western Washington University and WECU will generate ongoing financial support for Western while giving community members a chance to show their WWU pride.

WECU is introducing a new WWU debit card and will contribute a portion of the revenue to WWU to benefit students and programs across campus.

The collaboration is the latest chapter in a 90-year relationship between WWU and WECU.

“We’re very excited about this new program and grateful to WECU for its continued commitment to Western,” said Kim Hill, CEO of The Foundation for WWU & Alumni and vice president for University Advancement. “WECU and Western have been working together for generations, and this is a creative new way to build on that relationship and provide meaningful support for our students for years to come.”  

WWU’s relationship with WECU dates back to 1936, when WECU was founded and opened its membership to Western faculty and staff. Since then, the relationship between the two organizations has grown to include:

  • WECU Court at Carver Gym. 
  • Scholarship support helping students pursue their education. 
  • Sponsorship of major and minor events across the Western community. 
  • Three WECU ATMs on the Western campus.
  • Ongoing collaboration and community support with students, faculty, staff and alumni. 

“WECU and Western have been part of each other’s story for 90 years,” said Jennifer Kutcher, WWU alumna and WECU president and CEO. “This card is a natural extension of a relationship that has always been about supporting students, faculty, staff and the broader Western community. We’re excited to give students and alumni another way to connect their everyday financial lives with the university they care about.”

The card comes with an on-campus perk: Receive one free ticket for a child under age 12 with each adult ticket purchased for a regular-season, ticketed WWU home athletic event. Show your WWU debit card at the box office.

Funds generated through the program will help advance the university's mission by supporting students and the areas of greatest need, creating opportunities that strengthen the Western experience for generations to come.
