U.S. News Ranks WWU as Top Public Master’s-Granting School in Pacific Northwest for the 22nd Straight Year

Western Washington University is the highest-ranking public, master’s-granting university in the Pacific Northwest for the 22nd year in a row, according to the 2022 U.S. News & World Report college rankings.   

Western also ranked fourth among the Top Public Schools in the western U.S., a region stretching from Texas to the Pacific Coast. 

In addition, WWU was ranked as 7th in the West for Best Colleges for Veterans as well as one of the Best Value Schools. 

“While this recognition is gratifying, we also measure our success in terms of increasing students’ access, increasing social mobility for historically underrepresented students, providing opportunities for public service, and the impact of our faculty’s research and creative work," said WWU President Sabah Randhawa.  “Western is honored to be a consistent top Fulbright Program, Peace Corps Volunteer producer and a First-Gen Forward Institution.”   

U.S. News has separate categories for “national” (doctoral-granting or research) universities and liberal arts colleges and for specialties such as business and engineering. Rankings are based on a variety of criteria including academic reputation, student selectivity and retention, faculty resources, peer assessment and financial resources.
