Surya Vanka to Present 'Design in the Age of Data' at WWU Feb. 2

Surya Vanka, a global leader in design best known for his groundbreaking work in user experience at Microsoft, will speak at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2 in Fraser Hall 101.

The lecture, “Design in the Age of Data,” is free and open to the public, and is presented by the Dell and Rosalie King Design Lecture Series in conjunction with the Western Gallery’s simultaneous exhibition of “In the Open” and “The Neighbors.” The exhibitions explore the limits of privacy, free speech, surveillance, and control of public images.

 Vanka is known for Design Swarms Workshops and the Design Value Scorecard. He is an author and design educator who has lectured in more than 20 countries. He served as director of User Experience at Microsoft, was a tenured professor of Design at the University of Illinois, and was a fellow at the prestigious Center for Advanced Study.

Parking on campus is free after 4:30 p.m. in the C/CR lots off Bill McDonald Parkway to the south of campus.
