Summer International Day at Western set for July 25

Western’s Language and Culture Programs will host its inaugural Summer International Day on Tuesday, July 25. This celebration of international cultures on campus will feature music and other performances, as well as hands-on activities for all ages.

Festivities start at 2 p.m. in the Viking Union Multipurpose Room with a summer program showcase featuring presentations by Western’s Intensive English Program and National Taiwan Normal University. Korean fourth- fifth- and sixth- grade students — visiting campus to participate in Western’s Global Connections and Odyssey of Science and Arts camps — will also present. The showcase will be followed by international games and snacks from 3-4:30 p.m. Presenters plan to offer participants a chance to try out new activities and games while sampling treats and beverages from around the world.

Fun continues into the evening with Popcorn and Movie Night from 6:30-9 p.m. on two screens in Academic West. Features include a “kid-friendly” flick for younger audiences and a PG-13 option for teens and adults.

“Celebrating our diversity with events like the inaugural Summer International Day offers our community a chance to experience cultural enrichment from around the world without setting foot on a plane” said Ting Hsien, an international student advisor in Western’s Language and Culture Programs.
