Student-focused weekly email begins this fall

What's new, WWU is built around the student experience

A new WWU newsletter just for students begins this fall.

We're changing our email newsletters to better connect students, faculty and staff with information designed for their needs.

Students will now receive What’s New, WWU, a new Wednesday newsletter built specifically around the student experience. Rather than serving primarily as a university news publication, What’s New, WWU will help students navigate life at Western by bringing together events, resources, important deadlines, opportunities and practical information in one place each week.

Western Today will continue as Western’s primary newsletter for faculty and staff, as well as external media contacts. Published Monday, Wednesday and Friday during the academic year, Western Today features university news, announcements, events, faculty and staff updates, and stories from across Western. What's New, WWU will have content primarily for students.

Anyone interested in signing up for either Western Today or What's New, WWU may do so.

The change allows each publication to focus more intentionally on the audience it serves. Western Today has historically reached both employees and students, requiring one publication to serve audiences with different information needs.

Creating a publication tailored to students centers their experience and needs, from finding community and resources to participating in campus life and staying on top of important deadlines.

At the same time, a more focused Western Today can better serve faculty and staff with university news and information relevant to their work and the broader Western community.

Both newsletters are produced by University Communications and Marketing, with contributions from partners across the university. Submissions to either newsletter may be emailed to news@wwu.edu.
