State, U.S. flags to be lowered Aug. 5

Gov. Chris Gregoire has directed that Washington state and U.S. flags at all state agency facilities be lowered to half-staff Thursday, Aug. 5, in memory of U. S. Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Jarod Newlove, 25, of Renton, who died from wounds sustained from an incident in Logar Province, Afghanistan, on July 23.

Flags should remain at half-staff until close of business Thursday (especially for those agencies on furlough on Friday), or first thing Friday morning, Aug. 6.

Other government entities, citizens and businesses are encouraged to join this recognition.
