Spring 2025 Subscriptions Update from Western Libraries
The Western Libraries has finalized the outcomes of the 2024-25 subscription review process. These changes–most of which will take effect on January 1, 2026–are part of an ongoing effort to ensure that the university’s subscriptions portfolio remains dynamic and relevant while still achieving the necessary target of $29,000 in subscription reductions.
During winter quarter, the Libraries shared a list of six existing subscriptions under review and 36 new subscriptions requested by members of the university community. Based on the feedback we received, we will be canceling a small number of existing subscriptions in order to add a comparable number of new subscriptions to our collection while meeting our target of $29,000 in cancellations. More information about the specific titles is available on the subscription review webpage.
Most of the canceled subscriptions are accessible through other sources like PubMed or are indexed in resources like EBSCOhost, CINAHL, or APA PsycINFO and can be acquired full-text through Interlibrary Loan (ILL).
If you have any questions about the titles, library subscriptions, or the subscription review process, please reach out to the Libraries’ Subject Teams or contact the Libraries’ Collection Services division. Western students, faculty, and staff can also continue to submit new subscription requests for next year’s review via our New Subscription Request Form.
